Brian was an original partner and talked to us about all the remodeling and renovations involved with opening the Warehouse as well as fans trying to sneak in through the ceiling vents. Thanks Brian.
I was one of the great group of ex-Chicagoans who worked during the final touches of construction at the Warehouse.I had flown in from San Francisco to offer my services in masonry and to wield a hammer or a sledge.Whatever was needed I was ready to do some work.Although I had cut my hair and trimmed my moustache because my dear friends; Bill Johnston and Brian Glynn had forewarned me that the police in New Orleans weren't to pleased to see any radical long hairs and their music gain a foothold in the Crescent City at that time. The core group was renting a large house on Metarie Road when I arrived so I just dropped my sleeping bag in one of rooms and then proceeded down to Tchoupatoulas St. to view the progress on the old warehouse complex. As this was the 2nd week of January and there was still much to be done,we all worked at a frenetic pace but still had time to immerse ourselves in the New Music scene that was gaining a foothold in the Veux Carre each night. My most vivid memory was of my friend Dennis W. and I still installing the fire door hardware on opening night as the Fire Department and the Police were telling us that no one would be allowed entry until it was installed to their satisfaction. As we turned the last screw the crowd poured through the doors. As I recall, Fleetwood Mac blew everyone away and the Grateful Dead sounded like a garage band that didn't have their chops together. However it was a show to remember,as anyone who was there will testify!! Glass Pictures in association with PVW Productions and Rebirth Pictures present A Warehouse on Tchoupitoulas.
On January 30th 1970 the Warehouse opened it's doors to thousands of fans to see The Flock, Fleetwood Mac and The Grateful Dead. In the ensuing twelve years some of the best musicians in the world would grace the stage. Including - The Allman Brothers, Bob Dylan, The Doors, Pink Floyd, The Who, Bob Marley, David Bowie, Foghat, Jethro Tull, The Clash, The Talking Heads, Rush, Dr. John and many many more. We are filming this documentary on the Warehouse in an attempt to capture some of the magic that so many of us missed out on.
We are asking fans to please help us get the soundtrack this film deserves. If everyone can give a little we will be able to reach our goal of $40,000. All large donations will receive a producer credit.
